What I finished: 2023 #13 - color-blocked tank
I'm skipping over several things I've finished, since this one is fresh in my mind, having finished it up yesterday! I haven't done much sewing lately, and had a Saturday with no plans, so figured I would work on finishing up my large pile of in-progress projects to clear some sewing head space, but instead got sucked into cleaning out my scrap bin, and ran across pieces of this shirt. I had started it last fall, but ended up throwing it in the scrap bin because it was cut too short.
I didn’t want to add to the bottom, but I realized I could add to the shoulders, and make it a whole design feature, and finish it all off with contrasting piping.
I had to break out my garden twine since I didn't have any appropriate cording in my stash, so the piping is a touch smaller than I would prefer, but overall, I'm pretty pleased with it as a fun, different detail.
The overall details are a little fuzzy, but it's self-drafted, probably starting with one of my basic tops, with gathered rectangles for the bottom, and I draped the extra strap piece on my dress form. From there it was a simple assembly, just having to think through the order of operations to make sure the piping was finished neatly. I did the neckline first, leaving one strap unattached. I then sewed the strap closed, and did the two armhole pipings before I sewed the sides closed. Topstitching all the piping helps it lay flat on the inside.
